What Foods Are GERD / Acid Reflux Triggers?

The most common foods that people complain of include:

Whole milk products
Acidic fruits and juices (orange, grapefruit, pineapple and lemon)
Onions
Tomatoes and tomato products
Vinegars or foods cured in vinegar (pickles, relish)
Foods very high in sugar
Fatty meats
Fried foods
Recipes that are very high in fat
Alcohol
Coffee
Tea
Carbonated sodas
Spicy foods
Peppermint
Chocolate

GERD is a very individual condition. You may find that there are items on the list above that do not provoke reflux for you. There also may be foods not on the list that do provoke your reflux. There are no hard and fast rules as to which foods will provoke reflux, so it is important for you to keep a food diary, noting which foods provoke GERD for you.
