Turkey Burgers

1 quarter-pound burger with bunThis recipe can easily be multiplied and cooked hamburgers are good leftovers. Nutrition Facts include the bun but not the optional lettuce, tomato, or onion.

Ingredients
8 ounces Turkey, ground, 93% lean, 7% fat, raw |
2 tsp. Olive oil |
1/4 tsp., leaves Dried thyme |
1/8 tsp. Salt |
1 to taste Black pepper |
2 roll Whole wheat hamburger buns (or gluten-free hamburger buns) |
1 1/2 ounces Reduced fat swiss cheese |
Instructions
Combine the turkey, salt, pepper, olive oil, and thyme leaves until well blended. Divide into two balls and form into two burgers.
When the oven is hot place the burgers in the grill pan. Cook on the first side for about ten minutes.
After turning cook for about 5 - 7 minutes and top with the cheese. Cook until the cheese is melted.
Serve each burger on a whole wheat hamburger bun with the accompaniments of your choice.

Look for ground turkey that is 90 to 95 percent lean. Most of the ground turkey will be a mix between white and dark meat, but that is good because the dark meat brings more flavor to your burger. Because poultry is a bit drier to begin with, you need to add back some fat to make it taste great, but in this recipe that is in the form of great quality monounsaturated fat: the olive oil. Just a little adds a lot of moisture to your burger.
