Savory Mushroom Cheeseburgers

Ingredients

1 tsp. Olive oil
12 ounces Crimini mushrooms (sliced)
6 ounces 95/5 Ground beef
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp. Salt
1 to taste Black pepper
1 tsp. Dried or rubbed sage
2 slice, thick/large (1/2 thick) Tomatoes
1 ounce Provolone cheese
2 roll Whole wheat hamburger buns (or gluten-free hamburger buns)
2 leaf, large Iceberg lettuce

Instructions

Place the olive oil in a medium skillet over medium high heat.

Add the sliced mushrooms and cook, tossing frequently, until caramelized (about 10 minutes). Remove to a plate and place in the refrigerator to cool.

When the mushrooms are cool mix 2/3 with the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and sage until well blended. Pat into two burgers.

When ready to cook heat a medium skillet over medium high heat. Add the burgers and cook for about 7 minutes on the first side. Turn.

Top the burgers with the remaining mushrooms, a slice of tomato and then the cheese. Cook for about 7 - 10 minutes until the cheese has melted slighty.

Serve on a hamburger bun topped with lettuce.

Recipe Notes

This juicy burger is full of savory flavor and so easy to make. It’s worth the extra step to brown the mushrooms and blend them into the burger. Delicious.
