Savory Mushroom Cheeseburgers

Serve with Cole Slaw or Creamed Shredded Brussels Sprouts or Creamed Spinach or Low Sodium Creamed Spinach or Parsnip French Fries
Ingredients
1 tsp. Olive oil |
12 ounces Crimini mushrooms (sliced) |
6 ounces 95/5 Ground beef |
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce |
1/8 tsp. Salt |
1 to taste Black pepper |
1 tsp. Dried or rubbed sage |
2 slice, thick/large (1/2 thick) Tomatoes |
1 ounce Provolone cheese |
2 roll Whole wheat hamburger buns (or gluten-free hamburger buns) |
2 leaf, large Iceberg lettuce |
Instructions
Add the sliced mushrooms and cook, tossing frequently, until caramelized (about 10 minutes). Remove to a plate and place in the refrigerator to cool.
When the mushrooms are cool mix 2/3 with the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and sage until well blended. Pat into two burgers.
When ready to cook heat a medium skillet over medium high heat. Add the burgers and cook for about 7 minutes on the first side. Turn.
Top the burgers with the remaining mushrooms, a slice of tomato and then the cheese. Cook for about 7 - 10 minutes until the cheese has melted slighty.
Serve on a hamburger bun topped with lettuce.
