Plums
Even though there are thousands of different species of plums, the most common plums you will find in the market are the European plum. These are indigo to red in color while the other common plum, the Japanese plum, can range from purple or purple red to a light green color. These are sweet plums and the Damson plum is slightly tart and firmer.
Buy plums slightly firm and ripen on the kitchen counter for about 2 – 4 days. They will ripen faster in a brown paper bag. After ripening, they will keep for about 4 days in the fridge.
A 2 – 3 inch plum will have about 40 calories and they have more antioxidants than apples.
