I recently purchased a bottle of Resveratrol supplements. Reading the fine print, I caught the bit about platelet aggregation. I suffered a PE in Sept 08. My INR seems to hover around 2.0 despite my dose of 15 mg of Coumadin each day. What is the interference, if any, between the two?. My own doctor had not heard of resveratrol and I don't want to do anything to further aggravate the clotting/anticlotting mechanisms of my body.
First and foremost, there's no reason to take resveratrol. There is simply no evidence that it will benefit you. We have no research to prove that it will help and there's so little quality studies about whether it might actually harm you.
Secondly, I never recommend any such supplements to my patients who are taking Coumadin® (warfarin). The companies that make such products are poorly regulated and have a long track record of harming people.
At the same time, you have no knowledge of how this might interact with your Coumadin or any other medication.
Put simply, if you take Coumadin, don't take supplements.
